Why should online business owners hire SEO expert, rather than trying it themselves?
Why would a bald guy implant his own hair instead of hiring an implant professional?
Now this is the reason why i sometimes feel this forum fails to actually guide those who are looking for answers. It is unfortunate to see even other SEO experts fail to give a logical answer.
My apologies if you can’t decipher. Let me rephrase. Why would a business owner do SEO instead of focusing on his business? He should concentrate on growing his business and look for the best marketer he can find. Otherwise, he is not a good businessperson.
I can code even the worst jokes! But a bold guy does not have the right technology, however he can stick into natural remedies? irrelevant sarcasm!
Why should business owners hire an accountant instead of doing it themselves? Why go to the doctor when you can DIY?
Irrelevant! SEO is not a disease that you want to treat!
I agree. Why hire an accountant when you could do your own taxes? Experience, that’s why.
Look at the broader picture, you’re missing the point. Experience, knowledge, team etc.
I know the answer i actually asked this to see how many people will give a logical answer to it, however even the owner of the forum had hard time to give it a shot, to bring more feasible answer into the table.
Now that is the main problem my friend, an accountant can do a lot more than the taxes but the experience part i agree!
Agreed. Good accountants are wonderful companions for your business. Just a very primitive example for me to use.
Kudos to you my friend! I literally asked this question to see if someone will give me a better answer but it seems some people can not touch the importance of having a SEO guy on board. You should not hire SEO expert because of his experience, or knowledge also to save time organising your business and the interaction with clients. You can not do all at once!
Kudos to you, sounds like you have it all figured out.
Experience, knowledge, know how, ability, expert.
Let an experienced expert or educated individual handle the hard work.
Time is money.
This question has an obvious answer. If a business has money and wants expertise, they pay for it. If a business doesn’t have money but has time, then they can learn it. If the business has both money and time the choice is theirs. When I started my DJ business I didn’t have money but I had time so I learned it in my own.
To spend unnecessary money
They should go with what they know and forget about experts
TIME! Are you working ON your business or IN your business. Can’t do both.
You pay an SEO specialist to do the work so you don’t screw it up.
Does your typical biz owner have 8-12 hours a day to spend on learning and doing SEO?
To save time, how to hire the right SEO expert is probably a more important wish question.
Indeed, any experience to share how to hire one?
Why hire a plumber to do your plumbing? because they can do it better than you, in the fraction of the time, with expertise.
Well, to be fair, I can do plumbing better and faster than it would take me to get someone to do it lol. But that’s me.
I guess you also cut your own hair, sew your own clothes, fix your car and cook your food (I’d like to too, but will have to desist other activities to make the time)
Overall some business owners know more about SEO than some ‘experts’ but most aren’t near that level and we only have so many hours in the day.
I tend to fall down the rabbit hole of whatever remotely interests me, but overall I tend to do better when I concentrate on what I’m already good at (at least during work hours) I consider the rest a hobby as long as it’s entertaining.
Cook my own food? Of course I cook my own food, I don’t live with my mom.
And yes, I cut my own hair, because I can just use clippers and be done in 5 minutes rather than take 2 hours to go somewhere, wait, and have them do it for $30. My clothes tear, I throw them out and I Uber everywhere I want and don’t bother with a car.
But again, that’s me. I can make a case for why each is better for me, but I don’t do that for everything of course, just what I can do better faster cheaper or at least two of three.
But as for the rest of what you said, I agree lol. I debated plumbing, because I was a plumber for something like 5 years, and even though it’s been 20 years, I still know more than most idiots I can call.
It’s all fun and games until a business owner disavows their entire site or screws up their robots.txt file
Additionally is a business owner’s time best spent doing SEO or is it better spent actually running the business?
Good business owners learn to delegate.
You answered your own question when you mentioned the word “expert”.
Same reason I wouldn’t try to mend my own broken leg.
A smart businessman knows his strong points and outsources the rest. It’s opportunity cost mostly. Why would you sacrifice $1000 of your time and labour when you can pay someone else $900 to do it for you and better, faster, cheaper?
If the thought of SEO makes you sweat or have negative thoughts then hire somebody, if it fascinates you and you’re interested and have the time then go for it.
Perfect example. I have a pretty good understanding of SEO. But I am a marketer. If I need a high ranking site, I will hire one of these guys to get me ranked while I work on the logos, colours, videos, etc. And I wouldn’t make my own videos either, I would hire a video guy. Hell, I write daily and would probably hire a writer if I had the budget, so for a website, I would handle overall strategy with like 3 others working on what they do best to have a website in a month rather than spending a year doing it all myself and having it not as good.
The economic advantage of specialisation.
Spend time doing what you’re good at, spend money on things that will free up your time to concentrate on what you’re good at.
They should hire me to play in the NBA instead of Lebron.. I’ll do it for 1/10 of how much he’s making.
All of us that work hard can get anything we want done, but we don’t always have the time. What do you think is most important + what do you feel least comfortable with? What specialist would benefit you most? How much time do you really have?
Do yourself, spend 1,000s of hours and many years or, hire a professional who already knows and can save you time. Just depends if you value your time, or not.
Because a successful business owner should be busy growing and running his business. Why hire someone to mow your lawn. Time.
To most small business owners the words SEO stand for Seriously Expensive Overpromisers.
Because they are manufacturers, farmers, builders, etc., type with two fingers and hardly know how to send an email.
Why should folks with a leaky Roof hire a roofer? Why not just pull up YouTube and do it yourself.
Locked out of your car? I am sure you phone can pull up YouTube and show you how to break into it. Why Hire a locksmith?
Spend your time doing what you’re good at and hire people to do things that they’re good at. Otherwise you will switch from doing your high value add high value job to be inefficient and less effective providing a lower return.
I hire gardeners because my time is better spent helping my clients, than mowing lawns.
To avoid a monstrous waist of time, money and potentially ruin the sites potential SEO.
Business owners should clean their office, run cafe themselves, drive delivery vehicles themselves and should do everything themselves. And yeah SEO too.
Of course, they also always answer the phone, type and mail letters, pay the bills…
Even the business owner will hire a SEO expert, it has to have some reasonable knowledge about SEO. In this way the business owner will appreciate better the SEO expert value, will negotiate better the price, and will follow up the evolution of SEO for own business. For sure, nothing is better than DYS, but you need to have enough time to accomplish both SEO and administrative business tasks. Time is everything.
Not only is it worth delegating what you’re not good at/don’t want to learn so you can concentrate on growing your business, you don’t want to cheap out on the critical parts.
Even for a service tech earning $60 an hour on the road, it often makes sense to pay $80 an hour for a good mechanic who will keep his truck in the best working condition… while a $30 an hour mechanic would likely cost more in delays, rework and aggravation….
So it’s not only to delegate, but accept to pay the price required for the right service provider.
Becoz they want to have an expert on the task, not a beginner.
Big learning curve…. conflicting info.. no time initially and it’s ongoing process of tracking and adjusting …again no time
Is this seriously a question? Wow!
Because he should only focus on returns & profits.
There are many core activities in doing growing online business e.g. SEO, PPC, Fb Ads & Content Marketing etc. Each require time, efforts & huge learning curve to master.
And of course to make a online venture successful you will prefer masters not beginners.
Formula is: Do one task, in which you are best. And hire the best for rest.
Simple…to save max time for improving their business instead of fighting with and cursing Google.
Maybe because experience make sure that you’ll get rankings fast and help you to not screw up things so your homepage won’t drop in Google like a stone in water? Is that a reasonable answer?
Why would anyone go to hairdresser instead of trying themself.
