What tools and algorithms do you recommend for compression of images and videos?
image: jpeg or png video: mp4
Try Google’s new tool Squoosh.app for image optimisation and compression.
I’m also keeping my eye on that tool. I hope they offer an API soon. Also good solution is the mod_pagespeed module for Apache/Nginx. It will do a LOT of optimisation on server level.
Well if you can install mod_speed, then pretty good for entire site speed optimisation…
For videos, I recommend you to create HD videos and host it on YouTube, then embed them on your blog post or website.
HD videos should be in mp4?
Imagify hands down.
For Images I use tinyPNG (free) – Videos I use MP4 for youtube.
Video. For free look at handbrake. Use the optimise web / very fast 720 setting. Easily reduce by 2/3 and no quality loss for viewer. Adobe Premier pro can do the same if you know how to use it and is faster, but not free.
