For a blog hosted on a domain, is it necessary to have ‘/blog’ in the website’s URL?
If it is just a blog I would not use /blog just the domain. If it is in addition to the domain then I use /blog.
No. You can have it be domain.com/anything or anything.domain.com or domain.com/folder/another-folder/blog. Or if the blog is the only thing than it can be domain.com with nothing after /.
You should not use a sub domain, such as anything.domain.com.
Pros and cons are debatable. They just asked if it were necessary.
However if you are going to have more than one blog article it is realistically better to have a sub folder. Call it /blog/ or /news/ or even /keyword-blog/ etc.
